Officials Identify Couple Killed In Baltimore Fire

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Authorities are identifying a couple killed in a fire at a home in south Baltimore.

Fire department officials announced Friday that 66-year-old Michael Singer and 61-year-old Anne Singer died in the fire at the home on Pontiac Avenue early Wednesday. Firefighters arriving on the scene found heavy fire and received reports of people trapped inside. When firefighters entered the home, officials say they found the Singers dead inside.

Fire department officials say the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that the cause of death for both was smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Fire officials say there have been 12 fire deaths in the city this year. Firefighters plan to conduct smoke alarm sweeps in communities around the city on Saturday.
