Official With New Jersey Lottery To Head Maryland's Agency

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Gov. Larry Hogan has named an official with the New Jersey Lottery Group to head Maryland's gaming agency.

Hogan on Tuesday announced the appointment of Gordon Medenica as director of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency.

Medenica was most recently transitional CEO of Northstar New Jersey Lottery Group, which won the contract to manage sales and other functions for the New Jersey Lottery.

He was director of the New York Lottery from 2007 to 2012.

Medenica a longtime executive at The New York Times Co. He was the executive vice president of Philadelphia Media Holdings LLC, an owner of The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News.

He succeeds Stephen Martino, who resigned in March to become a partner in the Baltimore office of a law firm.
