Officer Significantly Injures Hand Attempting Arrest

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Aberdeen Police arrested a man who attempted to flee an officer, who was injured in the incident Monday.

Around 1:10 p.m., officers from the Aberdeen Police Department attempted to arrest Robert T. Henderson, 31, for an open felony warrant for narcotics violations directly related to drug activity in this area.

Henderson was located at 18 East Bel Air Avenue at the Amtrak Station. He was approached by a patrol officer who attempted to take him into custody. Henderson disobeyed the officer's orders to submit and attempted to flee the area, resulting in a scuffle. Officers arrived and were able to restrain Henderson, only after a Taser was deployed to effect compliance.

During the struggle a detective suffered a hand injury requiring transport to Johns Hopkins Bayview for treatment. Henderson was transported to Harford Memorial Hospital, as a medical precaution, after ingesting suspected cocaine.

After a brief evaluation Henderson was released from the care of Harford Memorial Hospital and transported by officers to the Harford County Detention Center where he was committed for various offenses.

The injured detective was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview where he underwent immediate surgery to repair his injured hand. The detective has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
