Off-Duty Detective Assaulted By Dirt Bikers Following Accident

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—City police are investigating after an off-duty detective is assaulted by dirt bikers following an accident this weekend.

Police say the off-duty officer was traveling southbound in the 1100 block of  Monroe Street in her personal vehicles when she inadvertently struck a dirt biker that was also riding in the road.

"When she got out of her vehicle to check on the rider, other dirt bike riders assaulted her. When officers arrived to assist her, all involved parties fled the scene," police said in a news release.

The off-duty detective was transported to an area hospital with an injury to her ankle.

It is unknown at this time if any of the dirt bikers were injured in the incident.

Police say there is no evidence that the suspects on the dirt bikes were aware the person they assaulted was a police officer.

Baltimore Police say this incident "underscores the dangers of dirt bikes on city streets".

The Baltimore Police Department plans to release additional details about a dirt bike task force within the next two weeks.
