Ocean City Performers Seek Additional $1M From Shop Owners

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- The battle between Ocean City Boardwalk performers and the town is continuing, now with an amended complaint.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports that the complaint -- in addition to asking for an ordinance to be dismissed, $1 million from the town and a suspension for City Solicitor Guy Ayres -- is now seeking an additional $1 million from shop owners and names Ayres as a defendant in the case.

The lawsuit says shop owners "have acted illegally to deprive the boardwalk performers of their constitutional rights."

The July ordinance required performers to sign up a week prior to performing. It also regulated where they could stand.

Ayers has called the lawsuit "laughable" in the past, saying performers don't have legal standing to file the lawsuit.
