NTSB Releases Preliminary Report on Virginia Plane Crash
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Federal officials say a plane that crashed in northern Virginia earlier this month had touched down briefly and bounced on the runway several times before becoming airborne again and crashing into trees.
Local media outlets report that the National Transportation Safety Board recently released a preliminary report into the Aug. 12 crash that killed six people.
The report says that several witnesses saw the plane approach the runway at the Shannon Airport high and fast. It says that after the plane climbed back into the air, it began to descend and rolled to the left as it crashed into trees.
The report doesn't say what caused the crash.
The crash killed an Indiana mother and her two children as well as an exchange student from Germany. Also killed were the plane's pilot and owner.
