No, The Berger Cookie Bakery Did Not Get Shut Down For Roaches

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Although the Baltimore Health Department did close down a place called "Berger's Bakery" at Lexington Market Monday due to a roach infestation, the bakery that actually produces Baltimore's most famous dessert was not shuttered.

DeBaufre Bakeries, the real producer of Berger Cookies, released this statement Tuesday:

"DeBaufre Bakeries, producer of long-time Baltimore favorite Berger Cookies, is not affiliated with Berger Bakeries which was recently closed at Lexington Market. DeBaufre Bakeries has passed all local and federal inspections and continues to produce its chocolate creme Berger Cookies that are available at your local retail establishment. Berger Bakery was one of approximately 400 retail vendors authorized to sell Berger Cookies but, they did not, and do not, produce them."

Several outlets reported the closure of Berger Bakery on Monday.
