'No More' PSA Campaigns To Stop Silence On Domestic Violence

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A new PSA campaign launches called "No More." It urges us to stop being bystanders in the domestic violence crisis.

Mary Bubala has more on the initiative.

Stop the silence. That's the powerful message behind a new campaign called "no more."

You may have seen it during the Ravens game.

The three-year PSA campaign comes as the House of Ruth takes out a full page ad thanking Maryland for its support.

"Thank You" - that's the top line from a full page ad by the House of Ruth on the back of the Baltimore Sun sports page.

It thanks the people of Maryland for their support, saying the recent unfortunate events have shined a light on domestic violence and the community has responded.

The House of Ruth is partnering with the Baltimore Ravens in the wake of the Ray Rice domestic abuse scandal.

"Intimate partner violence is not just a women's issue. In truth, it's men who can make a difference," said Sandy Timmins, executive director of House of Ruth.

The "No More" campaign was seen by millions when it aired during many of Sunday's NFL games.

As the campaign launches it comes with new data that underscores the urgent need for bystander involvement.

Among the 70 percent of women who've experienced domestic violence and told someone about it, more than half --58 percent-- said no one helped them.

Sixty percent of Americans know a victim of domestic violence or sexual assault; 73 percent of parents with children under the age of 18 said they have not had a conversation about violence in the home. And 64 percent of Americans say if we talk more about domestic violence and sexual assault it would make it easier to help someone.

The "No More" campaign is rolling out-- not just on TV but also online, on billboards and in magazines and newspapers across the nation.

One in four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime.
