No Charges For Md. Troopers In Fatal Shooting

SALSIBURY, Md. (AP) -- An Eastern Shore prosecutor says no criminal charges will be filed against two Maryland State Police troopers in the fatal shooting of a man who hit one of them with his car.

Wicomico County State's Attorney Matt Maciarello told a news conference Wednesday in Salisbury that probable cause doesn't exist to charge Cpl. Anthony Meyers or Trooper First Class Jeffrey Wilkins in the March shooting of Winfield Fisher of Salisbury.

Police say Fisher had gone to the police barrack for a repair check on his vehicle. Maciarello says Fisher became nervous when Meyers told him he smelled of marijuana.

The prosecutor says Fisher's car hit Meyers, who then called for help. Maciarello says both officers fired, and Meyers fired the fatal shot.
