Mother Of Newborn Abandoned In Beltsville Identified

BELTSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County police have found the mother of a newborn girl reported abandoned in Beltsville.

Officers received a 911 call around noon Wednesday from a woman who said she heard the baby crying and found her soon after near a home.

Police said Thursday that the woman who reported finding the infant gave birth to the child in her Beltsville home Wednesday morning.

Detectives say the woman told them she became overwhelmed.

Police say the infant was never left alone outside.

Authorities say the woman is receiving medical care and Child Protective Services will continue to oversee custody of the infant.
