New York Man Dies In Hang Gliding Accident In Maryland

RIDGELY, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say a New York man has died as the result of a hang gliding accident in a field next to Ridgely Airpark.

The Star Democrat reports 49-year-old Bertrand Nicholas Delacroix died Saturday after authorities say he lost control of the hang glider he was operating and crashed into the ground. Caroline County Emergency Medical Services pronounced Delacroix dead at the scene.

Sgt. Frank Stanco of the Maryland State Police says the aircraft appeared to be for recreational purposes. Hang glider pilots are secured by a harness to a mechanical frame that acts like wings.

Stanco says further information is not available and that the cause of the accident has not been determined.
