New Metrorail Cars To Debut Next Month

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro says it will debut its newest generation of railcars next month.

The transit agency says its first 7000-series train with eight cars will start service on the blue line on April 14.

Interim General Manager and CEO Jack Requa says the new cars were built to maximize safety and enhance comfort and reliability. He says a second train of eight new cars is in testing and is expected to be in service soon.

Metro has ordered 528 of the new railcars and can order 220 more.
