New 'Living Seashore' Exhibit Coming to National Aquarium

BALTIMORE, Md (WZ)--Visitors to Baltimore's National Aquarium will soon have something new to see and to touch.

Ron Matz has a behind the scenes look at a new exhibit called "Living Seashore."

Inside the National Aquarium excitement is building, the horseshoe crab seems to sense it. A new exhibit, Living Seashore is in the works, featuring an interactive and touch experience.

"The kids can not only come up and look at the animals, they can feel the texture of what the animals feel like…they can ask questions one on one and interact with our interpreters," said Jack Cover, National Aquarium General Curator.

Visitors will be taken on a journey, exploring beaches and dunes, similar to Assateague National Seashore.

"When you go to the beach during the summer you often don't see a lot of the hidden life. We're going to teach visitors where to look for that life," Cover said.

You'll be able to touch a jelly fish and check out a horseshoe crab.

"When someone sees a horseshoe crab on the beach it's not in the best interest of the horseshoe crab to be picked up by its tail and carried around. You want to gently handle that animal and get it back in the water" said Cover.

The new exhibit here will span 2,700 square feet; it's designed to be both entertaining and educational.

"Tell stories between the connections between these animals and really show them it's a very unique habitat," said Cover.

The "Living Seashore" exhibit is scheduled to open around the middle of May. CLICK HERE for more information.
