New Appeal For Information In 1975 Md. Cold Case

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A former police officer working to solve a cold case from 1975 says he hopes new appeals on social media may lead to a break in the case.

On a July night nearly 40 years ago, 15-year-old Kathy Beatty left her home in Aspen Hill, Maryland, for a party. She was later found seriously wounded in a wooded area near her home. Police say she'd been sexually assaulted and her skull crushed. She died days later.

Radio station WTOP reports a retired Prince George's County police officer who has become a private investigator has been working on Kathy's case for six years. Steve Kerpelman, who went to school with Kathy, says new outreach on a Facebook page has led to information.

The case also has a website.
