Need to Stay Cool? Annapolis Opens Rec Center to Public

BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ) -- If you need a way to stay cool with Thursday's heat advisory in effect, the City of Annapolis is opening up the Pip Moyer Recreation Center to residents who want to escape the heat.

In a news release, the city said the rec center located at 273 Hilltop Lane will be open to the public between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Residents without memberships will only be able to use the facility to take shelter and won't have access to recreational activities.

The city is under a heat advisory between noon and 8 p.m., with highs reaching into the 90s that are expected to produce a heat index of 100-105 degrees.

The release urges residents to check on neighbors who are without air conditioning, and reminding them not to leave children or pets inside hot vehicles, where temperatures can climb to 130 degrees.
