NBC Analyst Mike Battaglia Talks The Kentucky Derby And The Upcoming Preakness Stakes
Mike Battaglia is a horse racing analyst, race caller and television broadcaster and also covers the Kentucky Derby for NBC. Mike has worked most of his career at Churchill and Turfaw Park. Mike joins Ed and Steve to talk about California Chromes win at the Kentucky Derby and the upcoming Preakness Stakes.
Steve asks how impressed Mike was with California Chrome and why he didn't choose him to win. Mike says that in practice, California Chrome didn't look like he could handle the track but during the race he looked a lot better and obviously won the race.
Mike said he was really impressed with Commanding Curves race. He finished strong and has a good chance to win the Preakness. A big reason he didn't win the Kentucky Derby is because California Chrome got off to such a huge lead and was going to win but overall the finishing times were slower compared to years past.
