Naval Academy's Beloved Mascot Bill XXXV Passes Away

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—The Naval Academy's beloved mascot Bill XXXV has been euthanized after a recent battle with kidney illness.

According to the Bill's caretakers, he had suffered from idiopathic edema and related disorders, which appear to be caused by chronic kidney weakness.

"Due to pain and suffering caused by his condition and a low likelihood of improvement, doctors there determined the best and most humane course of action would be euthanization," the caretaker said.

The Naval Academy says goat caretakers are not identified in order to maintain the safety and security of live mascots.

Memorial arrangements have not been announced.

Bill join the Academy in August of 2015.
