Navy Midshipmen Video 'Naptown Funk' Gaining Attention

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- The U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen are gaining major attention online after producing a unique and fun video.

Tracey Leong with a look at the new hit, "Naptown Funk," capturing the essence of Annapolis.

The video has garnered tens of thousands of views on YouTube in less than 24 hours ago.

Strutting through the streets of downtown Annapolis, the U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen's rendition of "Uptown Funk", titled "Naptown Funk", uses original choreography and lyrics.

"We have an awesome relationship with the city of Annapolis, and I think this video encompasses that relationship and we wanted to share it with the world," Midshipman First Class Rylan Tuohy said.

Tuohy is no stranger to making these unique videos. He also created a spirit video last year before the annual Army-Navy game.

"Film is just a huge hobby of mine, and I'm really glad that I get to continue that here at the Naval Academy," said Tuohy.

With a $0 budget and dozens of volunteers, the midshipmen were able to shoot the entire video in four hours.

Midshipman Second Class Liam Gregory, who stars in "Naptown Funk," says it was an honor to participate and pay tribute to their town.

"You'll see floodings going on and midshipmen will be there to help out. The academy will always be there for Annapolis because they truly are the host of us," said Gregory.

And Tuohy is fortunate he gets to showcase the midshipmen's talents.

"We have challenging lives--tough academics, tough daily routines--but have a lot of fun on the weekend and we have talents just outside of what you may see," he said.

Rylan Tuohy is already busy planning his next video. An Army-Navy parody is set to be released at the end of November.
