National Civil War Medicine Museum Exec. Director Resigns
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick is looking for a new executive director.
George Wunderlich said Monday he's resigning effective Aug. 1 to take a teaching and administrative position at the Mount St. Mary's Catholic seminary in Emmitsburg.
Wunderlich has been executive director of the Civil War museum since 2000.
He says it's a bittersweet announcement, but time for a new director. He says the parting is amicable.
Board President Betsy Estilow says Wunderlich has been a strong leader of the museum.
Wunderlich oversaw the museum's expansion from its base in downtown Frederick into satellite museums in Washington and at the Antietam National Battlefield, a training arm called the Letterman Institute and a book-publishing division.
Wunderlich is also a well-known maker of Civil-war era banjo replicas.
