Mountain Lion Suspected Of Snatching Dog From Calif. Bedroom As Child Slept Nearby

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A mountain lion is believed to have entered a home in the California town of Pescadero, just south of San Francisco, and taken the resident's dog, authorities say.

Deputies said a woman, child and a 15-pound Portuguese Podengo were sleeping in a bedroom early Monday morning, CBS San Francisco reports.

They believe the animal slipped through French doors that were open to let in air around 3 a.m. and grabbed the pet who was sleeping right next to the child.

The woman said she heard the dog barking aggressively and saw the mountain lion's shadow snatch it.

After she called 911, deputies searched the area and found paw prints similar to that of a mountain lion.

The animals have been spotted in the area with increasing frequency lately.
