Months of Planning Behind New Year's Eve In Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ---Out with 2014 and in with 2015. Baltimore prepares to celebrate the new year.

Ringing in the new year with a bang. There's definitely going to be so much excitement downtown at the Inner Harbor. Thousands of people, a lot of music, a lot of fun, but it takes a lot of prep as well.

Fireworks, a sure highlight of the night as tens of thousands of people welcome in 2015 in downtown Baltimore.

Before the first boom in the air, there are months and months of planning.

New Year's Eve morning, boxes are unloaded, electrical wiring set and lights are put in place as the stage is set for a host of events.

For entertainment to your ears, the local band, "Under The Covers" will jam the night away.

"We play anything from Pharrell to Guns and Roses," drummer John Burkart said.

"We play a little bit of funk, top hits, pop hits," lead singer Brian Bourne said. "We really get the crowd dancing, as well as, just having a great interactive experience."

For your viewing pleasure, Image Engineering is lighting up the Baltimore sky again this year.

"We have GPS and timecode these boxes so at midnight this box knows I'm supposed to go and launch the New Year's Eve fireworks and bring a new year in to Baltimore," Nick Hock with Image Engineering said.

With thousands of firework shells choreographed to music, it looks like it will be a fun and exciting New Year's Eve in Baltimore.

"We will have an LED screen and we have some surprises in store so we do have 5,000 firework shells that they will be pumping in the air at midnight. Good things and new things in store for the firework show," an Image Engineering employee said.

Baltimore City police say people need to be careful. Be mindful that there will be a lot of pedestrians downtown so watch out for them.

There will be a lot of officers in uniform downtown, as well as officers in plain clothing.

Baltimore's New Year's Even Spectacular is Wednesday night. Coverage on WJZ starts at 11 p.m.
