Montgomery Officials To Get Update On Use Of Body Cameras

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County officials will be getting an update on the use of body cameras.

The Montgomery County Council's Public Safety Committee will meet Monday.

The update will include discussion about the impact of a pending state policy on local law enforcement's use of body-worn cameras.

The committee was last briefed in the spring on the police department's plans to implement a pilot body-camera program. At the time, the department indicated that there were many legal and technical issues that needed to be addressed, including some at the state level.

A statewide panel that is forming guidelines on body-camera use is scheduled to report its findings by Thursday to the Maryland Police Training Commission, which will develop a statewide policy by Jan. 1.
