Montgomery County Passes New Ban On Plastics

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- Montgomery County passed a new ban on plastics that includes a staple at many parties, the Red Solo Cup.

But don't cancel the tailgate just yet. As it turns out, not all solo cups are created equal.

The county is targeting Number 6 plastic, which is more expensive to recycle and costs taxpayers more.

The ban also impacts things like taking out containers and coffee cup lids.

It will go into effect next year.
