Montgomery County Officials Approve Paid Sick Leave

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A panel of Montgomery County Council members has approved a measure to require paid sick leave in the county.

The Health and Human Services Committee voted 3-0 on Thursday for the measure. It is now scheduled to go to the full council on June 23.

The measure closely resembles legislation that has stalled in the Maryland General Assembly.

For example, it would allow workers to earn one hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked, up to seven full days of paid sick leave per year.

The measure would bring paid sick days to nearly 100,000 county residents.
