Montgomery Co. Student Shot In Face While Walking To School

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A Montgomery County high school student was reportedly grazed by a bullet Monday morning while walking to school.

The Paint Branch student was shot in the cheek and ear by an unknown suspect after he left school to purchase something at a nearby convenience store and was walking back to campus, according to Montgomery County Police.

17-year-old boy then walked to a fire station and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities say.

Investigators believe the shooting wasn't random and there may be "some prior association between the suspect(s) and the victim."

In a letter to the community obtained by WUSA9, the principal wrote the campus had an increased security presence in response to the shooting, but there was "no imminent danger" to the school community.

An investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call the Montgomery County Police Department at 240-773-6800.
