Mitchell Courthouse Will Remain Closed Into Next Week

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Mitchell Courthouse in Baltimore, closed since April 26 after a smoky fire in the basement, will remain shut into next week.

Court officials said in an email Friday afternoon that the Baltimore Department of General Services needs to finish fire restoration work. The department had initially said the courthouse would open on Monday.

Officials say a lot of progress has been made, including power being restored and remediation of smoke damage. DGS hopes the courthouse will reopen sometime next week.

Officials say those called for jury duty should report to the War Memorial Building, 101 North Gay Street, instead of the Mitchell Courthouse.
