Mississippi Woman Convicted In Maryland Slaying

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A Mississippi woman has been convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting of her neighbor, with whom she was having a romantic relationship.

Thirty-seven-year-old Katrina Ben of Silver Creek, Mississippi, was convicted Wednesday of killing 35-year-old Eric Somuah in his Silver Spring apartment.

Montgomery County police found Somuah dead of a gunshot wound on June 6, 2012. Prosecutors say officers interviewed Ben, a neighbor who said she was in a romantic relationship with Somuah. Ben denied killing Somuah.

The next day, prosecutors say, a partially disassembled gun was found and determined to have characteristics from a spent shell casing recovered at Somuah's apartment.

Police say Ben bought the gun in 2004. She was arrested in 2013 in Silver Creek, Mississippi.

Ben faces a life term at sentencing on Dec. 15.
