Missing Maryland Businessman Indicted In $50M Fraud
BALTIMORE (AP) — Two Maryland businessmen have been indicted in a $50 million telemarketing office supply scam.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Baltimore said in a news release that 52-year-old Brian Keith Wallen of Lutherville and 56-year-old Andrew Stafford of Bel Air were indicted in June on mail fraud and conspiracy charges. Prosecutors say the indictment was unsealed Wednesday after Stafford was arrested.
Wallen's lawyer reported him missing on April 28, and Baltimore County Police found a suicide note at Wallen's house. Wallen's car was found at Loch Raven Reservoir, but searches turned up no trace of him.
FBI Special Agent Scott Hinckley said by phone that the agency does not believe Wallen committed suicide. The agency is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of Wallen.
