Military Probes Death Of Walter Reed Worker

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) -- Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda says it's investigating the death of a hospital worker from western Maryland.

Spokeswoman Sandy Dean said Thursday that the investigation into the May 8 death of Navy Hospital Corpsman Tyler Morris of Fairplay is routine. She says all active-duty deaths are investigated according to military regulations.

Dean declined to discuss the circumstances of the 21-year-old sailor's death, citing medical privacy laws.

Navy Personnel Command spokesman Mike McLellan says Morris was admitted to the hospital as a patient May 5.

McLellan says Morris enlisted in 2010 and was assigned to Walter Reed last year after serving at the Naval Hospital in Beaufort, S.C., and Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base in N.C.

Family members contacted by The Associated Press declined to comment.
