Midshipmen, Coaches Prepare For Army/Navy Game Saturday

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- In just four days, one of the biggest football rivalries battle it out here in Baltimore with the Army and Navy.

Marcus Washington has more on what players and coaches are doing to get ready.

Ready and anxiously waiting for the kickoff. This is a tradition for each team and the players. While we're excited to see the battle, the players are just ready to perform.

The official kickoff is days away but the excitement over the Army/Navy game is already here. From fans to players, Saturday is a big deal.

"The team is all excited about this game. It's Army/Navy; what better stage to play?" said one.

For the past 12 games, Navy has taken the victory over Army, but Navy's head coach says right now, it's all about getting mentally and physically ready for Saturday's matchup.

"We look forward; we don't look backwards because looking backwards isn't going to help you win this game. Our think is just to try to get ready for a team that we know is going to be ready to beat us," said Navy Head Coach Ken Niumatalolo.

It's the 114th matchup for the two academies that are certainly both America's teams. From the stands of M&T Bank Stadium to right here on WJZ, the game will surely be a sports highlight of the day around the country.

"This will be the only college football game at our level on that day so we get a chance to showcase the academies for the entire country," said Danilo Robinson, who plays for Army.

The Army/Navy game at M&T Stadium on Saturday will be the first time the two teams have battled it out here in Baltimore in seven years.

"I think it's basically a home game for us and I think it will work to our advantage a little bit," said Parrish Gaines, who plays for Navy.

Throwing all past games out the window, Saturday's matchup will bring the excitement both on and off the field.

"When we drive to Philadelphia, we stop at Midtown or either stop at a Chick-Fil-A or a Burger King so the ride was so short, we didn't get a chance to stop and eat anything but it's definitely good to be here. It's definitely nice to be here in Baltimore," Niumatalolo said.

You can watch the game on WJZ. Our special pre-game coverage begins at noon on Saturday.
