Metro: Service Restored After Bridge Falls Onto Tracks

BERWYN HEIGHTS, Md. (AP) -- Metro says service to Greenbelt has been restored after a concrete pedestrian bridge fell onto tracks in Berwyn Heights.

The transit agency announced early Thursday that full service has been restored on the green line after crews worked through the night to make repairs. MARC commuter trains are operating full service on the Camden line, but officials warned of possible delays in the Greenbelt area.

A crane struck the bridge just before rush hour Wednesday afternoon, sending part of the span crashing onto commuter train tracks. Luckily, no one was on the bridge and no trains were in the area. No one was hurt.

Metro contractor Skanska was using the crane to lay crushed rock near a new track. The work didn't affect Metro operations until the bridge came down.
