Metro Chief: Big Increase In Suspicious Package Reports

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro's police chief says reports of suspicious packages on the transit network have increased fivefold in the week since the Paris attacks.

Chief Ron Pavlik says there have been no credible threats to the Metro system since the attacks. Nonetheless, police have increased what he calls "high-visibility" patrols and random bag checks. He says the extra measures are precautionary.

Pavlik is urging riders and Metro employees to continue to be the "eyes and ears" of law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activity. He says that will help police root out any potential threats.

FBI Director James Comey has also stressed that there are no credible threats of a Paris-type attack in Washington. Militants linked to the Islamic State killed 130 people at various locations in Paris last week.
