Memorial Held For Soldier Killed In Black Hawk Helicopter Crash

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Family and friends honored the Army soldier killed earlier this week when his Black Hawk helicopter crashed on a St. Mary's County golf course.

That routine training flight was out of Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Two others were injured.

Alex DeMetrick reports, it was an emotional service that was closed to the public.

Army specialist Jeremy Tomlin, a Tennessee native, spent five years in the Army.

Friends, members of his family, and members of his Army family filled the base chapel. Inside, his commanding officer spoke, as well as two of his fellow soldiers who served in the same helicopter unit.

Prior to his arrival at Fort Belvoir, he did a tour of duty in Europe, where he was the flight crew's helicopter repair technician.

What brought the helicopter down on Monday is still unknown, the Army continues to investigate.

Tomlin leaves behind a wife of four years. They were high school sweethearts.
