Medical Grant Program Provides Up To $10K For Sick Kids

BALTIMORE, Md. (AP) -- The UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation in Maryland says families are eligible to receive up to $10,000 in medical care and services not covered by health insurance.

The Carroll County Times reports the organization is trying to get the word out about available money for sick children. A spokesman told the newspaper the program allows eligible families to apply to receive up to $5,000 per year in grant money or $10,000 in a lifetime for children's medical expenses including surgeries, hearing aids, wheelchairs or other services not covered by private health insurance. A family's eligibility is determined by their most recently filed tax return and applies to children under any private insurance carrier.

The UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation is a nonprofit organization incorporated in Maryland in 1999. It expanded nationwide in 2006.
