Md. Woman Fined $100 For Leaving Kids In Hot Car

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A Frederick woman has been fined $100 for leaving her children in a car in a supermarket parking lot on a 90-degree day.

Forty-one-year-old Fatimate Diallo was convicted during a trial Wednesday in Frederick of two misdemeanor counts of leaving children under 8 in an unattended vehicle.

Police say two older children, ages 9 and 12, were also left in the car.

Police say Diallo left the children alone with the windows closed for up to 30 minutes on July 7. Defense attorney Dino Flores says they were alone for about 20 minutes and had water.

Police say the children opened the doors for emergency responders after another shopper called 911.

The children were treated by an ambulance at the scene but were not hospitalized.
