Md. Woman Arrested At BWI Checkpoint With Loaded Gun

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A Maryland woman was arrested Wednesday after TSA officers found a loaded gun in her carry-on at Baltimore Washington International-Thurgood Marshal Airport.

TSA officers found a loaded .38 caliber pistol in the St. Mary's County woman's carry-on bag as she was going through a security checkpoint at the airport. It was loaded with five rounds. Sixteen loose bullets were also found along with the firearm.

Maryland Transportation Authority police responded and confiscated the firearm, arresting the woman on state weapons charges.

It's the 12th firearm that TSA officers have caught at BWI this year. Nationwide, more than 1,900 firearms have been detected by TSA officers. Last year, TSA officers detected 1,813 guns at airports nationwide.

Although firearms, their parts or ammunition are not allowed in carry-on bags, they can can be declared to the airline and packed unloaded in checked bags.
