Md. To Hold Tax-Free Weekend For Energy Star Products

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- Maryland will hold a tax-free weekend for select Energy Star products from Feb. 14-16.

This is the sixth year for the tax-free weekend and will let Marylanders make purchases on qualifying items without paying the usual six percent sales tax.

Eligible items include air conditioners, washers and dryers, furnaces, heat pumps, refrigerators, CFLs, LED light bulbs, dehumidifiers and programmable thermostats.

Energy Star products meet energy efficiency requirements developed by the EPA. The program was established in 1992 to reduce levels of greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants. The label helps customers in locating energy-efficient products that offer savings on energy bills without sacrificing performance.

A list of Energy Star items may be found here.
