Md. Superdelegate Who Backed O'Malley To Support Clinton

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland superdelegate who previously supported former Gov. Martin O'Malley has decided to support Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary for president.

Yvette Lewis, a former Maryland Democratic Party chair, told The Associated Press on Tuesday she believes the former secretary of state would bring experience to the White House. Lewis says she thinks Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has brought important issues and energy to the campaign, but she believes Clinton "can put the most impressive face of America out there for the world to see."

Democratic superdelegates can support the candidate of their choice at the party's national convention, regardless of the candidate voters choose in primaries and caucuses.

O'Malley suspended his campaign for the nomination after a distant third-place finish last month in Iowa.
