Md. State Police: Man Shot on Side of Highway in Road Rage Incident

JEFFERSON, Md. (WJZ/AP) — Maryland State Police say a man shot another man while they were both outside of their cars on the side of a highway near Jefferson.

Police arrived on the scene, on U.S. 340, at about 4:30 p.m.

Police say both male drivers exited their vehicle and a verbal argument escalated into physical argument.  The two suspects involved were a 26-year-old male from Martinsburg, West Virginia and a 52-year-old male from Sharpsburg, Maryland.

During the physical altercation, the 26-year-old male pulled out a handgun and fired two rounds, striking the other man in the leg and foot.

The 52-year-old male was transported by helicopter to Shock Trauma with injuries while the 26-year-old male was transported by ground to Frederick Memorial Hospital with injuries.  There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

Police recovered a gun they believe was used in the shooting.
