Md. State Park Closed For Superstorm Sandy Cleanup

THURMONT, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Department of Natural Resources says it's closing part of Cunningham Falls State Park near Thurmont to salvage timber downed or damaged by Superstorm Sandy more than 14 months ago.

The agency says the Manor Area will be closed to the public Wednesday through the end of February.

The area includes the historic Catoctin Iron Furnace, campsites and hiking trails.

The DNR says removing dead and dying trees will promote natural regeneration, improve biodiversity and ensure visitor safety.

Other areas of the park will remain open.
