Md. Senate Rivals To Attend Labor Awards Ceremony

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two rivals for an open Senate seat in Maryland are taking some time to schmooze with union leaders.

Democratic Reps. Chris Van Hollen and Donna Edwards are scheduled to attend an awards ceremony hosted by the Metropolitan Washington AFL-CIO on Saturday night.

Van Hollen and Edwards are both running for the Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Barbara Mikulski. Both represent the Washington suburbs. Other members of Maryland's Congressional delegation are considering running for the seat.

Maryland's other Democratic senator, Ben Cardin, will also attend the "Evening with Labor" dinner and awards ceremony for local labor leaders in Washington.
