Md. Senate GOP Picks New Leadership

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland Republicans have chosen new leadership in the state Senate.

The Republican caucus selected Sen. J.B. Jennings, R-Baltimore County, to be minority leader on Wednesday. The caucus chose Sen. Chris Shank, R-Washington, to be minority whip for the upcoming legislative session in January.

Jennings, who is 40, has been a state senator since 2011. He also served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from 2003 to 2011.

Jennings replaces Sen. David Brinkley, who lost in the June primary.

Shank, who is 42, also has been a state senator since 2011. He was a member of the House from 1999 to 2011.

Republicans picked up two seats in last week's election. There will be 33 Democrats and 14 Republicans in the Maryland Senate.
