Md. Sees Record Rainfall Tuesday

LINTHICUM, Md. (AP) -- A record rainfall at BWI has led to flooding at the airport's parking lots and nearby roads.

National Weather Service meteorologist Heather Sheffield said that shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday, 5.76 inches of rain at fallen at the airport since 8 a.m. She says that breaks a record rainfall set on Aug. 12, 1955, when 4.91 inches of rain fell. And it had not stopped raining. It is now up to 6.27 inches, which makes this the second wettest calendar day on record. The wettest saw Maryland receive 7.62 inches.

BWI spokeswoman Whitney Kidd said the rain was not affecting air traffic, but there was some flooding on surrounding roads, and some parking lots had flooded.
