Md. School Holding Dance For High Achievers

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland middle school is holding a dance and pizza party for students who got straight A's. Students who got B's and C's can come after school, once the pizza is gone, and students with lower grades aren't invited at all.

The Washington Post reports the party at Eastern Middle School in Silver Spring is scheduled to start during the final period of the school day Tuesday. That's when the highest achieving students can go to the "Academic Achievement Celebration."

Students who earned B's and C's can join later, when classes are over and the free pizza is no longer being served.

The Washington Post reports the party leaves out 306 of the school's 865 students. Montgomery school officials say principals have discretion about such events.
