Police: Man Kills Himself After Standoff At Landscaping Business

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) -- Police say a man has fatally shot himself after a standoff with officers at a landscaping business in Silver Spring.

Officer Rebecca Innocenti, a Montgomery County police spokeswoman, says the man shot himself shortly after 12:15 p.m. Monday.

The man was an employee of Brookville Landscape Supply. Police were called after he arrived at work and appeared agitated. Witnesses told police that he pointed a shotgun at one employee and fired into a pile of mulch.

Police say the man then barricaded himself using mulch and other building materials. He did not take any hostages and no one was injured. Innocenti says police tried to negotiate with the man before he took his own life.
