Md. Police: Alleged Drunken Driver Sideswipes Trooper's Car

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) -- State police say troopers arrested an alleged drunken driver who sideswiped a trooper's patrol car.

Police say the collision occurred early Sunday morning on University Boulevard in Silver Spring. The trooper whose car was hit was helping another trooper who had pulled over a different suspected drunken driver. No one was injured and both drivers were arrested.

Police say it was the second time this spring that an alleged drunken driver has run into a police car.

Overall, state police say they made 80 drunken driving arrests this past weekend as part of a concentrated enforcement effort, including one driver who was arrested twice in the same evening.
