Md. Man Seriously Burned Trying To Heat Home Using Gas

TEMPLE HILLS, Md. (AP) -- An 80-year-old man trying to keep warm after running out of heating oil has suffered serious burns in a house fire in Maryland.

Mark Brady, a spokesman for the Prince George's County Fire and EMS Department, says the man was trying to light a fire in his fireplace Thursday afternoon after running out of furnace fuel.

Brady tells The Washington Post that the man tried to use gasoline to ignite the fire. He says the fire caught suddenly, burned the man and then set fire to flammable items in the house in Temple Hills, Maryland.

Brady says the man was burned over 20 percent of his body and was flown to a hospital. He says the injuries are serious but the man is expected to survive.
