Md. Lawmaker Charged with Indecent Exposure

ROCKVILLE, Md. (WJZ)--A Maryland delegate faces charges of indecent exposure after a confrontation with her ex-husband.

Pat Warren reports, the dispute resulted in the arrest of Montgomery County Delegate Ariana Kelly.

Delegate Kelly was dropping her children at their father's house last month when the incident occurred.

The couple had recently divorced, but she was apparently surprised to see him living with his fiance.

"The idea was it would be a transition so the children could adjust. When she opens the door she sees that apparently he has moved his fiancé in," said Luiz Simmons, Kelly's attorney.

According to police, there was a confrontation that involved Kelly baring her chest and refusing to leave the property.  Her ex-husband recorded it on his cellphone and played it for police.

Earlier this year Kelly was said to be considering a run for the congressional seat being vacated by Chris Van Hollen.

"She'll be judged as a politician, but she reacted as a mother who was being authentic and honest about her feelings--obviously she wishes that the incident didn't occur," Simmons said.

Ex-husband Barak Sanford has not commented on the incident.

The trial is set for August 13th

Kelly is in her second term in the House of Delegates.
