Md. Teen Dies After Being Hit By Car In Dover

DOVER, Del. (AP/WJZ) -- Dover police say a 19-year-old Maryland woman has died after she was hit by a car while jogging.

Authorities say Brittany Paige of Dundalk was struck by a vehicle shortly before 5 p.m. Monday near the intersection of North State Street and Walker Road in Dover, Del.

Investigators say Paige was jogging on the southbound side of State Street, and that when traffic stopped at the Walker Road intersection, she walked between the stopped vehicles.

Witnesses said Paige was looking at her cellphone, with ear buds in her ears, at the time.

Police say she then began to jog across the northbound lanes of State Street without looking for oncoming traffic and was hit by a car that had turned left from Walker Road onto State Street.

Paige did have headphones on at the time, according to her father Jim Vest.

She was a freshman at Wesley College, WBOC-TV reports, and she was studying elementary education.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in her honor. Donate here.
