Md. Inmates Prepping 350 Turkeys For Charity

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- State prison officials say inmates at the Maryland Correctional Institution near Hagerstown are beginning the process of preparing 350 turkeys for an annual Thanksgiving charity dinner in Baltimore.

Spokesman Mark Vernarelli says the frozen turkeys arriving at the prison Thursday will be thawed, cooked and carved at the Maryland Correctional Enterprises Meat Plant.

They'll be eaten at the Bea Gaddy Family Center's Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 27.

Inmates have been involved in food preparation for the event for more than 25 years.
